Mungo and azuki bean

Mungo and azuki

Golden Vigna is a plant from which teats are obtained and then fruits (mung beans), suitable for consumption. The legume mung beans have a dark green color and are about the size of peas. The golden vigna plant is a thermophilic plant that grows to a length of about one meter. This plant is creepy, like ordinary beans. The teat, in which the mung beans are hidden, grows to a length of about 10 - 15 centimeters. The active ingredients that mung beans contain are highly beneficial to the whole body from a health point of view

Mung beans - Golden Vigna (lat. Vigna Radiatta) - legume family

Azuki beans - (lat. Vigna Angulariss) - legume family

Vigna - cultivation

Vigna is a legume. In our country, it thrives best in foil or greenhouses, because this plant likes heat very much. In the southern areas, we can also grow it in the flowerbed, but we usually only pick green teats, because the seeds do not have time to ripen (especially as far as Chinese Vigny is concerned). Growing Vigny also requires enough moisture in the soil. It does not need to be over-watered, it would benefit from good soil permeability and rather a lower content of organic matter.

We sow the vigna at the end of April and the beginning of May in rows 35 cm apart or in pliers of 3 to 5 seeds in a 40 × 20 cm clip. We protect the long pods of this bean from muddying, mold and rot by mulching.

The most famous types of vigna:

Chinese Vigna (Vigna sinensis) - Vigna is one of the legumes that were grown in ancient Egypt and Arabia. It is an annual plant with a usually climbing stem. Teats 0.3 - 1 m long are straight or saber-shaped, smooth on the surface, one-colored or veined. The size of the seeds is 4-10 mm.

Golden Vigna (Vigna radiata) - a shrubby plant reaches 0.5 to 1.3 meters and has yellow flowers. Its teats grow suspended downwards or horizontally and are 50 to 180 millimeters long.

Vigna mungo - compared to other legumes, this bean is well digested and does not cause bloating as with other legumes, stabilizes blood sugar levels and is therefore suitable for diabetics , they contain a lot of vitamin C and vitamin K.

Vigna caracalla (syn. Phaseolus caracalla) are purple, white to yellow flowers that turn into teats at the end of summer until autumn. It likes warmth, sun and permeable, light soil. As it is a climbing plant, we do not forget to place a support for it, resp. we plant it next to pergolas, gazebos and the like. However, it is also best to grow it in a greenhouse.

Vigna for health

Vigna contains a large amount of quality protein, folic acid, so this healthy food is also suitable for pregnant women, so that the baby can develop properly. Legumes contain 22 to 44% of vital proteins, which are needed to detoxify the body, but also to protect against cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, already contains a good portion of legumes. Furthermore, Vigna contains iron, another reason to include this healthy legume in the diet.
